Actually Playing Kingdom Two Crowns

The Kingdom games and the latest in the series, Kingdom Two Crowns, have been around for a while. Two Crowns was released in 2018, has some free updates to it’s name and one paid DLC so far. I knew of the Kingdom games. I have always known people loved the games. I even considered them to be games that fit the Twitch channel well for the most part. Never played one though, until today.

Running along in Kingdom Two Crowns on an upgraded horse. The graphics don’t stop being lovely.

It Sure is Perdy

Kingdom Two Crowns would be the one I played a couple hours of today. It was part of a sponsored segment where I had my choice of multiple games and that was one of them (the other game I played during this sponsored segment was Superfuse). I jumped in and right away attracted to the lovely pixel graphics. When pixel graphics became an unneeded fad a long time ago I wasn’t on board. Now though, people make some kick ass pixel games that are insane looking. This is one of them. Just gorgeous. The UI is kept at a minimum as well which helps them stand out.

At night is when you can expect The Greed to come after you in Kingdom Two Crowns.

It’s a Game

Oh, should I tell you what the game is about? Mr. Pro Writer over here forgetting to do that. Kingdom Two Kingdoms is a side-scrolling game in which you must build your kingdom and keep these evil little buggers called Greed from destroying it. You are on your horse and explore side to side. You find some coins, then toss them to some peasants to work for you. They then make you more money and you pay to upgrade stuff. Things like walls, weapons and tools, farms and traders and some buildings. Then you fix your boat after a somewhat short time, have some of your people jump on and you go to another island to explore and build up again.

Building your town and defenses up are a key part of Kingdom Two Crowns.

Give Me More, Mostly

Now I only spent a couple hours with it, but holey crap was it an enjoyable game loop. Had all the trimmings of an addictive little game. Get more coin, spend coin for upgrade or building, want more coin because you want next upgrade or building so go get more coin. The Greed (your enemy because they are jerks, not you for wanting more coin and upgrades I guess) come from portals every once in a while and get strong as the game goes. If they catch you and smack you around you will lose the coin you have on you.

Now, to throw in a negative (again I only played a couple hours) I could see how it could get to be a bit of a grind as you learn the best ways to progress. I had a small period where I was waiting for money. Newbs will be newbs some times. You also need to try things and discover what they are or do. Some people aren’t always a fan of that type of game.

In the end, chalk it up as yet another game to go on the list of “it Needs More Time Played” even if I don’t get more in. It has a DLC coming early next year though so maybe it just locked in a spot on the stream. Another Kingdom game, set in the 80s it seems, is dropping next year sometime as well. I guess I won’t be overlooking that one.
